Previous Games

This page is full of descriptions of previous games we've played.

Last Friday, we stopped by Hampden-Sydney to play a game.  We couldn't leave too early but we got there as soon as we could at about 6:30 or so.  We played pretty well but they ended up scoring a goal on us.  Because it was getting really dark really quick, we are in the process of scheduling another game with Hampden-Sydney, hopefully this Sunday afternoon around 4 pm at VMI.  After the game we went to Applebees again and had a pretty sweet time.  No bowl of cherries this time but Lohr did talk me into geting some cheesecake thing  for dessert that was really good.  One downside of Applebees was that, because of a new club sport permit, we are not alowed to drink while signed out for games so we couldn't sample those fruitty concoctions that are Applebee's specialty drinks.

On Sunday the 25th of September the club soccer team had a pretty informal game with Washington and Lee.  I can't remember who scored all the goals but I think maybe Tudor and Chimpong and somebody else.  Anyways, in the end we came out on top with a 3-2 victory!!  This was a great first chance to play together as a team and hopefully this kind of success will carry on throughout the year!!

This past Saturday, the 23rd, your VMI Club Soccer team traveled down to Hampden-Sydney College for an early evening match.  We went down with only twelve players with Anya Kovarik stepping up to play keeper.  This turned out to be probably what will be considered the best idea ever.  Making more saves than God could count, including a save on a penalty kick, Kovarik helped to keep the game a tie going into half time.  After a fiery half time pep talk from ol’ Eric Dupilka the Keydets were more than ready to go out and win.  Unfortunately, however, Hampden-Sydney scored two goals before the end of the game producing a final score of 2-0.  After the hard fought loss, however, they did treat us to some free Dominos pizza in the make shift parking lot.  Selections included pepperoni, sausage, and cheese, as well as Dannon All Natural Spring Water from Chris Pettit’s trunk.  After Chimpong, K2, Barry, Maddox, and Riedel sold out, the remaining members of the team had a sweet dinner at Applebee’s family style restaurant, Farmville, VA.  The food was awesome and the waitress, from Lancaster County, PA, managed to sneak a whole cup of maraschino cherries away from the bar for us.  What a sweetheart.
